WHY WE FUME

Frank Capra made a series of films for the Army during World War II under the rubric of Why We Fight. In New Orleans, we're not at the fighting stage as of yet but I'm fuming, y'all. In 2005, City Hall made stuff up to keep people out of the city for as long as possible thereby impeding the recovery and pissing off the populace. Here they go again. NOPD has been manning (womanning too) checkpoints on I-10 to sort through who can and cannot enter the city. LINK. The one on the twin spans has been removed but a checkpoint on I-10 at the Bonnabel exit *may* still be up as of this writing.

This is, of course, the sort of asinine crap we can expect from the cretins who run Orleans Parish. NOPD has secondary jurisdiction on the interstates: the State Police have primary law enforcement responsibility. Hopefully, they have more sense than C Ray or Warren Riley. It wouldn't be hard. This is a grotesque abuse of power. If C Ray wants to open a can of whoopass on anyone he should pay Entergy a visit. 

The thing that *really* makes me fume is that Nagin and company treat us like we're children and very stupid ones at that. The people of New Orleans endured very difficult conditions post-K. Dr. A and I lived for 6 weeks without a refrigerator and many folks lived without power for weeks on end; not to mention all the people who shoehorned themselves into FEMA trailers. We're tough; surely much tougher than Mayor Hide Under The Bed With His Axe. He needs to get out of our way and stop making a spectacle of himself or nobody will ever evacuate again.

We're returning tomorrow and planning to dodge the interstate as much as possible. I think the bloggers and fellow travelers need to take over a bar Uptown on Friday.
