There's rampant confusion about re-entry. Nagin has been nattering on and on (it's the only thing he does well) about a four tiered scheme. LINK. Supposedly, some sort of placard exists that would help people re-enter. Unfortunately, C Ray and his inept minions neglected to tell us how to obtain said placards either before Gustav or subsequently. As a business owner, I should in theory be in the third tier and be able to return tomorrow. BUT all I have is my occupational license. And I don't feel like waving that at some burly guardsman with an automatic weapon. I suppose the info about the re-entry placards is another state secret like C Ray's schedule.
We're used to incompetent and high-handed government in New Orleans. Most of the time, it doesn't effect our daily lives but right now it does. Our city is "led" by a fool who couldn't find a bathroom without a GPS and we're supposed to believe that he knows what's best for ordinary citizens. This is the same mook who screwed the pooch in 2005 and has given us the glories of the Jack-o-Lantern recovery. And we're now supposed to trust in C Ray and in a Governor who is out to make himself look good to aid and abet his ambition.
Other than dropping fewer F bombs, I've been channeling my dear departed friend Ashley Morris the last few days. I've been using my cell phone a lot since fleeing NOLA and every time I look at its address book, Ashley's name is at the top. I'll never call his cell phone again but I cannot bring myself to remove the entry. Ashley would be proud of Hana and the kids: they're planning to come back with a vengeance.
Word to C Ray: the exodus is over, it's time for you to get the fuck out of the way and let people come home. The reports from your press spokesperson about widespread problems do NOT jive with what we're hearing from people who stayed. Homan and Karen G have been driving around the city with few problems. It's time for us to come home and for you to go. We need a Mayor who won't panic when the stakes are high. And if you won't resign (and I'm...uh...resigned to that) it's time for you to pack your axe and shut your big mouth and get out of our way.
That may have been a marginally coherent rant but what's a bit of incoherence among friends?
My home in the Marigny (Rampart and Mandeville) never lost power (according
to neighbors who stayed) and now I have to stay away for days for no
reason. Count me in among the pissed off.
I shoulda stood in my house, 'cept my neighbor is already back next door
and has told me we have an intact house and power to boot. Great. Why
can't I get back to my own house with my DRIVER'S LICENSE?????
