THE RACE IS ON

posted Friday, 10 July 2009

As I expected, Mitch Landrieu has decided not to run for Mayor. LINK. Mitch has already run and lost twice so it would have surprised the hell out of me, if he'd gone again. Besides, who the hell would want to clean up Nagin's mess? Of course, C Ray *is* a very easy act to follow...

I'm glad that Mitch made up his mind early this time after agonizing and lollygagging in 2006 before running. I know it drove Gorilla Ron Forman bananas. <baboom> I suspect that Arnie Fielkow is happy enough to live up to his nickname: Fielgood.

Mitch is the most talented Democratic pol in the Gret Stet but he's in a box because of big sister Mary: he can't run for the Senate so his eye is on the Governor's mansion. Of course, PBJ is likely to run for re-election so Mitch has to take the long view when it comes to that office. I think he'd only challenge PBJ if the latter were in deep shit and sinking fast. But if Jeffrey's tongue in cheek scenario of PBJ pullin' a Palin were to happen Mitch would be Governor. It's an unlikely scenario but I can dream, can't I?

Mitch's recusal clears the field in the Mayoral race. There's no frontrunner but Arnie, Karen Carter Peterson and John Georges are on everyone's list as potental top tier candidates. I don't think 2010 will be a good year for Georges: we elected a political neophyte who stressed his bidness background in 2002 and that didn't turn out too well. But he's got more money than God and he's willing to spend like a drunken sailor or is that Bacchus? There are a passel of lesser known people jockeying for position but I won't take Murray, Badon et al seriously until they bank more money. Of course, Badon has a very pun worthy name so he might be a worthy candidate now that the race is on:

I'm disoriented by seeing Brian Setzer so lightly tattooed, y'all. Now that I'm all weirded out I need to calm down and what better way than posting another version of The Race Is On by the man who wrote it:
