I don't know much about Houston but I understand that Telephone Road is a street in the Southeastern part of town. Both Rodney Crowell and Steve Earle have written songs about it and I'm posting Earle's tune as a part of my post-Ike "be nice to Texas" series. Besides, it's a helluva song from my favorite Earle album, El Corazon, and the video is pretty spiffy too:
Don't know much about Houston, eh? Well, I've been there more than once
and would recommend it heartly, even for people lwho don't like Texas that
much. I found Houston a very nice place -- very cool in a lot of ways.
They had a Contemporary Arts Center (I forget its exact name, but it's
still there, I'm sure) several years before ours got started. Also, Opera,
Symphony, Jazz (I'm also sure), plus lots of Blues and Country. The parts
I was in were very leafy, had old wooden houses just like home. Hardly the
Big Easy but still pretty good...
