SLIPPERY PEOPLE

posted Friday, 15 August 2008

The Nagin courage-n-leadership award thing gets curious and curiouser. I was originally inclined NOT to believe Council Prez Jackie Clarkson's claims that she didn't know how about the "award" to the Cowardly Lion Mayor. But crack Picayune reporter Gordon Russell has reported that Jackie's not the only one who wasn't clear on that point:

"Rabbi Ed Cohn, whose congregation at Temple Sinai is one of the city's largest, said he didn't know the event's exact purpose when he agreed to be one of about 50 hosts.

Cohn does not plan to attend -- the event will be on the Jewish Sabbath -- but said he told Bernardo he'd support a pro-recovery event. He is bothered by his name winding up on a list that looks a bit like a political endorsement. "I don't usually take real forward positions in political situations, " Cohn said. "Anyone who is the mayor of this community, I'm happy to work with. But it's not my role to be a politico."

It's looks as if the whole thing may be a con job by C Ray's personal shutterbug, Bernardo Wade aka Bernardo. The mere fact that this guy goes by his first name only makes me mistrust him. Who the hell does he think he is, Christo? At least he's not Mister/Signor/Monsieur Bernardo. I'm inclined to believe Rabbi Cohn since he has a good reputation and isn't known as a Nagin sycophant unlike certain one-named photogs.

Now that I've posted the inevitable musical clip, I'd like to shill for Rising Tide III. I'll be moderating the politics panel and the aforementioned Gordon Russell will be one of the panelists along with Ethan Brown, Schroeder and Greg Peters. If you want to see them shine and me make a fool out of myself, click on this LINK and register and/or donate. I promise that not a single dime will go to former NOAH honcho (honchette?) Stacey Jackson or Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price.

It just gets better and better. Thanks for agreeing to moderate this panel. I'm getting soooo excited. :)
