Bluegrass icon Ralph Stanley has recorded a radio ad for Obama that's airing in Southern Virginia. LINK. I hope they put it on the air in North Carolina as well.
It reminds me of the 1988 campaign when my friend Bruce asked me why Michael Dukakis didn't trot out Johnny Cash and his very liberal family to counter all the country artists supporting Poppy Bush. It was because my countryman's campaign was clueless so they didn't trot out June Carter, Roseanne Cash, Rodney Crowell and Carlene Carter as well as the Man In Black. None of them campaigned for Dukakis-Bentsen because they weren't asked. They all made appearances for Clinton-Gore in 1992.
Ralph Stanley rocks, y'all. Here he is with the Clinch Mountain Boys playing the appropriately entitled, Answer The Call:
Speaking of blue, the McCainiacs are pulling out of Michigan, which gives an entirely new meaning to the Wolverines' slogan, Go Blue. LINK.
Yeah. My teeth have yet to recover from all the gnashing. I still
remember Dolly ("Squeaky"? "Perky"?) Parton saying, "I like George Bush
'cause he's COUNTRY!" Tell a big lie, then keep repeating it...
