The pulp covers, uh, covered this week are NOT fiction but books chock-full-o-jokey-n-pulpy-zaniness. I was inspired to go in this direction by Senator Walnuts making like Henny (Take My Wife, Please) Youngman at the big ass biker rally. It made me wonder if his lowbrow Fifties-style sense of humor was inspired by these fine publications:
Dig those crazy (or is that crazed?) eyes on the guys in the first image. It's pulpilicious, I tell ya...
The next two books may have been read by McCain's handlers as they've made a lot of mistakes and have run a campaign that not only insults Barack Obama but the voter's intelligence as well.
And, no, the word boner has nothing to do with a man's naughty bits responding to the Miss Buffalo Chip contest and is nothing like Andrew's "culinary boner" on Top Chef. As Senator Walnuts would surely know, it's retro-slang for a mistake and the old gaffer knows a lot about those. Btw, I remember having the Louis Safian insult book when I was a kid. I considered it the height of wit, which could explain my Rickles side; just call me Mr. Warmth, Juneya or Shecky Warmth if you prefer...
Finally, how could I write a post with Joker in the title and not post this:

I hope this feature morphs into a history of the good old Tijuana bibles.
It's a shame I'm too young to know what Rick is talking about!
howie, they weren't really bibles but mainstream comics bootlegged with a
porn slant.
of course the more i think about it you probably knew that.
Of course, Howie knows, Rick. He's a Baptist, they know from repression;
even the nice ones... <ducking>
I'm with Rick. Please make this a regular thing. As to the Tijuana Bibles
-- I possess, somewhere, a hardback collection, and right humorous they are
too.
Damn, I once owned that insult book. I think I ordered from the school book
order catalog a very, very long time ago.
