Sunday's newspaper devoted a lot of its news hole to an "assessment" of the midpoint of C Ray's second term. I put the word assessment in quotes because they essentially gave Nagin a pass and, of course, he puts the ass in assessment. I considered doing a rant about it but it could not possibly be better than what Bayou St John David has to say here, here and here.
UPDATE: The Big O has chimed in over at Your Right Hand Thief.
Thanks for the endorsement. In today's paper, Stephanie Grace brought up
the same things as Oyster. I guess she's has a point, but I couldn't help
but think of Warren Riley blaming everything on the failure of eyewitnesses
to step forward. I'm really trying to be nicer to everybody at the
Picayune except James Gill. Jarvis DeBerry and whoever calls the shots. I
didn't blame the reporters for the fluffy nature of the story, since I
thought it was obvious that they were told to "keep it balanced" or "tell
both sides." Probably wouldn't have had the negative reaction to Grace's
column if she hadn't balanced the more expensive contracts with the cleaner
streets, as if that's the whole story. I tried to be nice, but she lost me
on third paragraph.
