MITT ROMNEY: MASTER THESPIAN

Say what you will about Mitt Haircut but the man knows how to look sincere on teevee. In fact, he's an even better actor than Jude Law who Aimee Mann's brother-in-law once said was "one of our finest actors." I think Romney is almost as good a political actor as the master thespian from Arkansas (no, not Rev. Huckabee) and I mean that as a compliment. It's why I think he'll be the Republican nominee, that and the fact that Holy Joe Lieberman isn't supporting him.

Anyway, here's Romney knocking a softball question from Tim Russert about Mormon racism out of the park. I love the catch in his voice when he says: "It's still emotional for me." Joseph Smith, who was also a helluva of an actor and equivocator, is proud of you boy-o:

Couldn't get him to say the Church was wrong, could they?

In 1978, my dad, the world's only Mormon Existentialist (that I know of), just in from somewhere or another with my mom, hadn't heard the news when I picked them up at the airport. When I told him, his first question was, "Was it a Revelation from God?" I told him yes. He said something long the lines of "Well, good!" I asked him why. He explained that a revelation made it final, carried the ultimate weight for Mormons.

(It's been noted elsewhere that the Mormons need a few good relevators about now, to help them catch up with the rest of us, but don't get me started to talkin'...)
