Right wing bible thumper, Catholic basher and McCainiac, John Hagee, has repeated his damn fool claim that Hurricane Katrina was retribution for a "homosexual rally." LINK. Hagee is, of course, referring to Southern Decadence, which is definitely more of a party than a rally.
I'm always confused as to why nutjobs like Hagee believe that de Lawd intervenes to smite sinners but never prevents bad stuff from happening. If the big guy/chick/thing is into pre-emptive strikes why doesn't he/she/it intervene to *prevent* catastrophes? After all, Republicans in South Mississippi were smited (smote?) big time in August, 2005 and there wasn't a "homosexual rally" about to happen in Waveland or Bay St. Louis.
Media Matters and several other fighters of the good fight are urging the MSM to ask McCain what he thinks of this nutbar's reiteration of his past blatherings. That's unlikely but it *is* possible that someone at Xavier will pose the question and ask McCain to denounce and rebuke Hagee. The "straight talker" will undoubtedly dodge the question in the same way he does in this video compilation from TPM:
I guess God is sort of clumsy when it comes to the whole smite-them-down
thing...or maybe he whacked Mississippi and Alabama "just for the hell of
it."
Everybody ignores the fact that Decadence happens in the French Quarter,
that the Quarter was spared the Federal flooding, and that those stalwart
souls who remained in the city DID, in fact, march on Decadence Sunday!
Lisa Bowman, one of the co-Grand Marshals, actually waited, waded, and
paraded before evacuating. Sounds to me like God wanted the party to go on.
Yeah, you right, Glen. But many people think the Quarter flooded. I hear it
from the tourists all the time.
Be warned, all you sinners...and anyone in the vicinity.
At that age, you were expecting 20/20?
At least some called him on it today:
