GEEKY FOLLOWUP

I was the first blogger to post about the geek dinner but a slew of my colleagues have chimed in:
---> Loki wrote a typically idiosyncratic post wherein he was the first local blogger to call me Shecky. Thanks, George. I neglected to mention his lovely and long-suffering fiancee Alexis in my first post. She is a very patient woman who seems to enjoy her man's zaniness. Dr. A will be glad to give you some tips on eye rolling and long sufferingness, Alexis. (I don't know if long-sufferingness is a word but it should be.) Follow this link to see Loki's geek dinner pictures.
---> Dangerblond posted her version of "borrowing" me from Dr. A. Btw, her description of her crazy driving is accurate. She may be nuttier than a fruitcake but she hasn't learned how to lie in law school; YET. That comes in the third year.
---> Maitri, who is the Adrian Monk of Debrisville bloggers, tried to organize everything with limited success. But she gets an A for effort. She also posted some spiffy photos of this steamily convivial event.
---> Mowren aka Gentilly Girl posted some typically heartfelt and kindly comments about this meeting of kindred, if somewhat twisted, spirits. We bloggers are apparently like Sister Sledge or the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates: fam-a-lee. I like it, Mowren, it's got a good beat and you can dance to it...
---> Oyster does that voodoo that he do so well in providing an excellent synopsis of the geek dinner. Oyster can always find the money quotes and he does it again. Show me the money, Erster, but don't give me that do goody good bullshit. One of these days I'll stop making Pink Floyd references but I have Barrett on the brain, which is apparently damaged. The lunatic *is* on the grass, after all...
Finally, last but never least, Schroeder wrote a stirring piece about the explosion of blogging talent in post-K New Orleans as well as our new found sense of community. Schroeder also delivers the best exegesis as to why we do what we do: "I mention the qualities of blogging as an introduction to an overlooked facet of post-Katrina New Orleans. Most of the people reading this entry will appreciate what I'm about to say. The New Orleans blog movement has become an incredible network of information dissemination, storytelling, and mutual support, and I would argue that the New Orleans movement has emerged as a stronger expression of community than in almost any other forum of "extra-personal" (i.e., non-interpersonal) communication anywhere else in the world."
The niftiest thing about meeting the others is how well we get along: even Ashley and Dangerblond aren't all that scary when you get to know them. I complimented Schroeder yesterday and he returned the favor: "It's sort of like going to see a movie after reading a book, and seeing your favorite characters played by superstars. When I see a movie adaptation of a book, I'm usually disappointed. At the Geek Dinner, however, I couldn't have been more pleased. I already knew a couple people, but I was so excited to meet others I hadn't yet met, and they definitely lived up to my expectations.
The blog characters who I expected to be played by superstars, and who I'm pleased to say satisfied my expectation, were Lisa, Sophmom, Maitri, and Adrastos"
Just think, I compared myself to Rick Astley when I'm really Pete Townshend only with a bigger mouth and a smaller nose. Merci beaucoup, Schroeder.
