Arnie Fielkow didn't fielgood about running for Mayor and announced yesterday that he's running for re-election to the Council. LINK. I think it's a wise choice after his "I'll decide by Labor Day" fiasco and subsequent pummeling by James Gill and Stephanie Grace. They really let Arnie have it; especially Gill who left Arnie bleeding on the floor.
I had come to the conclusion that Arnie didn't have the fire in the belly to run for Mayor quite some time ago. Being on the Council ain't easy but merely running for it won't stir up the hornet's nest of racial animosity that the prospect of a white Mayor will in parts of the African-American community. It happened in 2006 when the mild mannered liberal lite Mitch Landireu lost to Nagin and it will happen to any white candidate who makes a run-off. That's life.
So, we're left with the same uninspiring field for now. State Senator Ed Murray is dull but competent, which means he's running as the guy least like C Ray who is, as we all know, entertaining but incompetent. Murrray is pretty well organized in the black community and may be the closest thing there is to a frontrunner in this slow motion race. Austin Badon is young and audacious but I haven't a clue as to what he wants to do as Mayor other than run his mouth. Been there, done that.
James Perry is a virtual candidate who seems to have a heavy presence online but little money and low name recognition. I've run into James over the years and he's a bright and personable guy but he's not going to get elected on the Tweeter Tube. Jeffrey has had a lot to say about that here and here.
I'm not going to discuss Rob Couhig and John Georges except to say that they can self-finance their own campaigns and neither has a chance to win. Georges, at least, doesn't come off as a teabagging know-it-all like Couhig.
Ray Nagin will be an easy act to follow BUT the city is in an even bigger mess than usual so it's going to take a giant set of cojones or huevos to take on the job. I'm not running are you?
To elaborate more, financial issues and even bank failures have had been in
the news this past few days, it is the fact that the occurrence of
recession is increasing despite statistics said that countries have been
recovering from recession. Maybe this is why opponents of payday lending or
cash advance lending might be interested in a cash advance statistical
report. Naysayers would expect a cash advance statistical report to back
their claims of predatory lending and vicious cycles of debt, but it never
materializes – and it's difficult to prove an objective point with
anecdotal evidence. Your garden variety payday loan statistical report
indicates that demand is increasing, but also that most people who apply,
in the statistics done which include reports by the Federal Reserve and
others, are middle class and educated. It isn't the kind of cash advance
statistical report that so called consumer advocate groups like to
discover.
