A THEME SONG FOR RUDY?

posted Tuesday, 22 January 2008

Now that Giuliani has finished behind Ron Paul in a series of primaries, it's time for his "strategy" such as it is to kick in. Rudy's betting the ranch on Florida and its increasingly looking like a bad bet. I suspect the Giuliani high command was counting on all the snow birds from Noo Yawk flocking to Rudy. The flaw in that logic is that they're overwhelmingly Democrats and the Florida Repub primary is closed to Dems and independents. Oopsy.

I hate to kick a guy when he's down even when he's a mega-creep like Mayor 9/11. So, I'd like to suggest a theme song for Rudy's campaign. No, it's not New York, New York. It's Irving Berlin's I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket. Here's Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers from Follow The Fleet. Ginger would have approved, she was a hardcore winger before the term even existed.

Did you hear the one about the pelote players from northwestern Spain? As I recall, it was the Olympics, and the team was leaving the hotel, all at once in a group, and they got all jammed up in the revolving door. One of the standers-by quipped that this is what happens when you try to put all of your Basques in one exit! As Neo Pucehawk used to say: CESSA!

Right! So I just listened to the song you're suggesting for Rudy, which should have been entitled "I'm Mixining All My Metaphors in One Basket", and a mighty fine song it is, too!

Two thoughts:

First, after listening to this selection back-to-back with the latest SMV, I'm hearing Doctor John singing it, with Sister Teedy ataking Ginger's part. Though they wouldn't be doing the tap dancing. Of course, there are New Orleans musicians who know how to tap -- I can think of two right off the top of my head, one still living...

Second: I caqn't help but think "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" would be appropriate for the Joolster, cross-dresser that he is!

The Louis and Ella version of this song is magical and hilarious.

Funny, but I keep thinking of the Old Folks Back Home instead (that's Swanee River for comment readers probably not as steeped in Tin Pan Alley culture as Shecky is).
